La Salvia

Around 50 families live in the village of La Salvia in Nicaragua.
The village does not exist officially, so there is no electricity or tap water. The phone connection is very weak. The closest town is about 5 hours by bus.

The men fish and the women help with processing the catch (salting and smoking) and take care of the children and housework.
There is also no mayor, no police, and no official social structure. The commune manages to solve any conflicts that occur and generally lives peacefully.

People here don’t refuse modern life, they visit the city, and stay connected with the “big world”, but at the same time, choose to keep their life as it is.
